Dominic Lopreiato Obituary

In Loving Memory of a Beautiful Life: Dominic Joseph Lopreiato

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dominic Joseph Lopreiato. On March 20, 2024, Dominic peacefully departed, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He leaves a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Dominic's journey began on September 23, 1939, in Stefanaconi, Calabria, Italy. He was the beloved son of the late Antonio Lopreiato and Maria Teresa (Arcella) Lopreiato. Dominic's roots ran deep in both his Italian heritage and his new home in America.

Dominic graduated from E.C. Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain. His commitment to his country led him to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps, a duty he carried out with honor and dedication. He often relayed how much he enjoyed his time as a marine through his many stories of the places he traveled, with his favorite being Japan. He then worked at Pratt & Whitney/Chandler Evans for 33 years and also negotiated grievances for his union. He went on to work at Stanley Works in Farmington for 13 years before his retirement.

Above all, Dominic cherished moments spent with his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Marianne (Griffo) Lopreiato, who stood by his side through it all. His children, for whom he was a guiding light, instilling values that will remain with them forever, Anthony Lopreiato, his wife, Sharon, AnnMarie (Lopreiato) Galdau, and her husband, Greg. Dominic’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart. They were his greatest joy, the spark that lit up his world, and his legacy will live on through his six adored grandchildren, Philip, Sarah, and Andrew Lopreiato, and Emma, Justin, and Ethan Galdau. Their Papa's love was a beacon of warmth and wisdom that will forever light their way.

In addition to his immediate family, Dominic is survived by his sister, Christina Rubino, and her husband, Gaetano; his brother-in-law and sidekick, Frank Griffo, whom he considered a brother; along with numerous beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He joins his late sisters, Anna Carillo, Rafaella Lopreiato, and Domenica LoPreiato, in eternal peace.

Dominic will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him. Though he has left us to be with the Lord, his spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts, and his neverending love will light our way until we make our own journey home.

The Lopreiato family extends heartfelt gratitude to his compassionate caregivers, Anna, Dorothy, Denise, Maureen, Marcy, and Sally, and the amazing Hartford Healthcare Hospice nurses, Susan and Melanie, who provided unwavering support and care during Dominic's challenging journey.
