EAST BERLIN - Arlene Frances (Wade) Pethigal, 88, of East Berlin, widow of Thomas Joseph Pethigal, died Sunday morning (March 3, 2013) at home. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late LaForest and the late Mary Esther (Cushing) Wade, she would describe herself as a homemaker dedicated to her husband and children who loved being around family and friends, and would often be seen at her grandchildren's or great-grandchildren's sporting events. She loved the beach and camping at Hammonasset and traveling including frequent trips with the Newington AARP group. Her "lunch buddies" kept her busy trying favorite places around the area. Arlene will be remembered as someone who did not miss a holiday, birthday, or a moment to send out words of encouragement. Her memberships included The Women's Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #10732. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Pam Pethigal of East Berlin, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lonnie and John Reincke of Lake Zurich, Illinois, and Nancy and John Duffy of Farmington, eight grandchildren, Milissa, Thomas, Christy, Doreen, David, Kim, Mike, and Derek, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom take comfort in knowing she is in Heaven with the Lord and the Blessed Mother, and reunited with her mother and father, her husband, her sisters, and her beloved friends and family. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday (March 9, 2013) at 10am at St. Andrew Church, 396 Church Street, New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please remember Arlene by doing an act of kindness, giving flowers, or sending a card to someone, or making a donation to a charity of your choice. In her memory, take a walk on the beach and she will be there with you.
