With deep sadness and gratitude for her beautiful life, we announce the passing of Antonina Italia, a beloved matriarch whose strength, grace, and devotion shaped generations.
Antonina (Cannata) Italia, 95, of Berlin, passed peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 16, 1930, in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily, Italy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Salvatore Italia; her daughter, Maria Rosa Rossitto; her son in law, Giuseppe Campisi; her sister, Zina; and her brother, Antonino.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tina Campisi of Berlin, whose daily visits, loving care, and unwavering presence were a constant source of comfort and strength; her son in law, Giuseppe Rossitto and his wife, Anna, of Palermo, Italy; her cherished grandchildren, Patti Burgio and her husband David, and Sandro Rossitto and his wife Jessica, all of Berlin; her treasured great grandchildren, Martina and Anthony Burgio of Berlin; and her loving brother, Sebastiano Cannata and his wife Gertrude of Canicattini Bagni, Sicily. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Antonina built a life centered on faith, family, and tradition. After emigrating from Sicily, she settled in New Britain, where she raised her family before relocating to Berlin in 1996. She worked in the garment industry at American Bazaar. She was the heart of her family, especially on Sundays when her table brought everyone together. Her quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion created a legacy that will endure for generations.
For the past fourteen years, she was lovingly cared for at Maple View Health and Rehabilitation Center. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff, and especially to her devoted aide, Nana, whose compassion and tenderness were a true blessing.
Her legacy of faith, resilience, and enduring love will live on in the generations she shaped and the family she held so close.
