Audrey Ann (Maurizio) Bertagna, 87, of Kensington, CT, passed away on May 12, 2025 at The Hebrew Center in West Hartford, CT following a long illness.
Audrey was born in Meriden on July 17, 1937 to Louis and Pasqualina (Ciasulli) Maurizio. Following graduation from Meriden High School in 1955, where she was a proud member of the cheerleading squad, Audrey continued her education at Annherst College graduating with a degree in Secretarial Sciences. Upon graduation she began her career as an Executive Secretary at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford. Later she moved to New York City where she worked at a variety of companies including Gulf & Western and Simmons.
In 1981, Audrey married the "love of her life" Charley Bertagna and moved to Kensington, CT. Not only did she become a wife, but she also became the mother of three teenage children, Peter, Catherine and Jennifer. Audrey and Charley built a wonderful life together. They were constant companions and supporters of each other for over 40 years, until Charley's passing in 2024. They enjoyed domestic and international travel as well as many trips to New York City. Audrey enjoyed culture – attending the ballet and the theater as well as visiting many museums throughout her life. She passed her love of shopping, cooking, baking and hosting, including setting a beautiful table, onto her daughters. She was always the consummate hostess, never wanting anyone to go without.
In Kensington, Audrey was an active member of the Republican Town committee. She was elected to the Berlin Town Council where she was named Deputy Mayor. Audrey was also active on the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library board. A devout Catholic, Audrey was a long-time communicant of St. Paul's Church in Berlin, CT.
She was also a devoted grandmother who found great joy playing an active role in her grandchildren's lives, particularly attending their games and school events while watching them grow.
Audrey is survived by Peter and his wife, Danielle, of Sandwich, NH, and their children Lucas and Teagan; Catherine Schneider and her husband, James, of Dalton, MA, and their sons Matthew and Nicholas; and Jennifer Bertagna and her husband, Christopher Rung, of West Hartford, CT, and their daughter Meryl. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charley.
