Carol Lewis Pease

Carol Lewis Pease died on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at New Haven Hospital surrounded by her family after struggling with an illness for the past year.  Carlie, as she was known to friends and family, was born Aug. 27, 1957 on Martha’s Vineyard in Oak Bluffs, MA, the daughter of Allen H. Pease and Beverly Pease Williams.

Carlie grew up in Kensington, CT and summered on Martha’s Vineyard. She attended Mooreland Hill School in Kensington and Abbot Academy in Andover, MA. The youngest child, Carlie was fiercely independent, stating her beliefs and following her passion for cooking, nature and animals wherever they led her; whether it was recording nesting habits of endangered plovers on the island, practicing vegetarian catering and meditation in the Colorado mountains or studying the social behavior of spider monkeys in Costa Rica. Her colleges reveal this search for meaning; Colorado State for Wildlife Biology, Yale for Ecology, where she earned her master’s degree, and UPenn for Primatology.

In 1990, Carlie married David S. Revenaugh on Martha’s Vineyard and together they embarked on a major renovation of her ancestor’s estate in Kensington, on the property of the Moore Hudson River School painters and the Mooreland horse farm. Their son, Nathaniel was born in 1997 and the twins, Lucas and Cyrus, followed nine years later. Carlie devoted herself to her children, her home and farm-to-table gardens, and her growing stable of animals, especially purebred dogs. When David died in 2016 after a long series of illnesses, Carlie determinedly took up teaching science and fully embraced her role as a single parent. She specialized in hands-on science for most of her seven years at Mooreland Hill School, her alma mater, and held an adjunct professor position teaching Ecology at Albertus Magnus in New Haven.

Carol is predeceased by her brother, Randall S. Pease and her husband, David S. Revenaugh. She is survived by her children, Nathaniel, Cyrus and Lucas Revenaugh; Allen Hoyt Pease, Jr. of Hebron and Marion Pease Berman of Madison.

There will be a church service and reception at Kensington Congregational Church on August 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm.  She will be privately buried by her family at West Lane Cemetery in Kensington.  A Celebration of Life for Carlie will take place in June, 2022 on Martha’s Vineyard.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the GoFundMe account for the Revenaugh family on https://gofund.me/409fbc75.
