Charles J. Calderone

Charles J. Calderone, 88, of Berlin, CT, husband of Eileen M. Calderone, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at Arden Courts in Farmington, CT.

Charles was born on August 5, 1936, in New Britain, CT, son of the late Charles and Rose Calderone. He graduated from New Britain High School and then went on to graduate from the Hartford School of Accounting. Charles was the owner of the Berlin Music Center where he taught lessons and shared his passion for music.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Navy band.  Charles was a member of Saint Paul's Church in Berlin, CT, as well as a member of UNICO, the largest Italian American Service Organization in the U.S.

He married his high school sweetheart Eileen in 1960, and they made their home in Berlin, CT.  Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was talented in music, as he played in the Navy band along with his own band.  He enjoyed his family vacations in the Bahamas and Aruba, along with trips to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.  He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and watching his horse race.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Donna Burton and husband Doug, of Florida, and Charlene Steurer and husband John, of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Michael Burton and wife Tori, Alyssa Burton and husband Thomas Garvey, Jessica Conley and husband Kyle, Jennifer Steurer, and Kelsey Sweet and husband Bevan; and great grandchildren, Landon and Cayden Garvey, Tyler Burton, and Everett Sweet.  Charles was predeceased by his sister Mary Rooney.  The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Arden Courts for their wonderful care and to the hospice team for their love and compassion.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin, CT 06037, followed by a service at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Britain, CT.   Donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, at www.alz.org.
