Charles B. Lewis, 86, of Kensington, loving husband of Barbara (Beausoleil) Lewis for over 50 years, died Wednesday (February 21, 2018) at Ledgecrest Health Care Center. Born in East Haven, he received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Bridgeport, and his Master's degree from the University of New Haven. Charles served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services for more than 30 years. He was a member of Veterans for Peace and a literacy volunteer in New Britain for many years. He was a moderate man in all ways but his love for the Hartford Whalers. A dedicated public servant, Charles will be remembered as quietly dignified and a gentleman in every respect. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Karl and Kathryn Lewis of Kensington and Daniel and Jessica Lewis of New Britain, a sister Charlotte Tietjen of Westbrook, four grandchildren, Charles, Timothy, Thomas, and Madelaine, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Herman and William. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ledgecrest Health Care Center and Monsignor Bojnowski Manor for providing compassionate care for Charles during his extended illness. Friends and family are invited to call at Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, on Sunday (February 25, 2018) from 3 to 5 pm. Burial in Maple Cemetery, Berlin will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berlin Food Pantry, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT 06037.
