Dennis Oakes

Dennis Oakes, 67, of Berlin, CT died peacefully on March 7, 2025 with his family by his side after a short illness.  Dennis grew up in New Britain, the son of the late Lester and Mary Oakes, the sixth and youngest sibling in a proud Irish family.  In 1976 he met his best friend and the love of his life, Nancy (Elliott) Oakes.  Nancy and Dennis married in 1983 and became the proud parents of Daniel Oakes.

Dennis worked for over 40 years for the City of New Britain in various roles, spending the majority of his career working at the New Britain Senior Center, where he enjoyed interacting with the seniors of the city.  Dennis was known for his kind ways and willingness to help others.  Dennis was a volunteer coach for the Berlin Youth Soccer League for many years and coached several successful seasons.   Dennis was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Chelsea soccer, the New York Mets, and UCONN basketball.

Dennis is survived by his wife Nancy, son Daniel, siblings David (Christine) Oakes, Rita Maltese, Cathy (Doug) Murning, Linda (Bob) Feshler, Deborah Reginio, many nieces, nephews and friends, and his beloved pup and buddy Chelsea.

Dennis’ family thanks the staff at the Critical Care Unit at the Hospital of Central CT for their care and empathy in helping Dennis in his time of need.  The family also thanks special niece Joanna Maltese for providing guidance and support at this difficult time.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, CT.
