Donald William Woitowitz Sr.

PLAINVILLE - Donald William Woitowitz Sr., 79, of Plainville, loving husband of Irene Marie (Alkas) Woitowitz, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon (January 10, 2014). Born in New Britain, son of the late William and the late Barbara (Forster) Woitowitz, he graduated from New Britain High School, and was an officer for the New Britain Police for over 37 years until his retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald Woitowitz Jr., and Raymond and Michael Woitowitz, all of Southington, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Wanda and James Currier in Alberta, Canada, Pauline Foertsch of Bristol, and Donna and Eric Gehrken of Southington, two stepsons, Michael Fournier and his wife Annie in North Carolina, and Richard Fournier of Waterbury, two stepdaughters, Sandra Smith and her husband Jeffrey of Yalesville, and Tammy Charpentier of Harwinton, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Gloria Woitowitz of New Britain, and John and Dale Woitowitz of East Hampton, three sisters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Donald Sommerfeld of Oak Forest, Illinois, Ruth and Richard Deschaine of New Britain, and Laura D. Woitowitz of New Britain, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his parakeet "Lucky". He was predeceased by a brother and sister, David and Barbara Woitowitz, and a daughter-in-law, Laura J. Woitowitz. A funeral service will be held Thursday (January 16, 2014) at 10am at Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin. Burial will follow in South Burying Ground, Kensington. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday (January 15, 2014) from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Connecticut Western MA Office, 2080 Silas Deane Highway, 2nd Floor, Rocky Hill, CT 06067, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000 DEPT 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
