Edith H. Miller

Edith Hinton Miller, age 100, passed away peacefully in Oviedo, Florida on July 3, 2026. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her presence will be deeply missed.

Edith was born in East Charleston, Vermont on May 18, 1926. Her family moved to central Connecticut when Edith was 10 years old. She graduated from New Britain High School in 1943.

While working at New Britain Machine during World War II, Edith met Hugh Wilson Miller, whom she married in 1947. Edith and Hugh purchased a home in New Britain, Connecticut, where they raised three children, welcomed 6 grandchildren and hosted many family members and friends. Edith resided there for 65 years.

Edith dedicated her life to her family. More than anything, she loved being a homemaker, a mother and a grandmother. She created a loving home, where family and friends were always welcome. She liked to redecorate, periodically painting and papering the interior. She baked delicious pies, especially lemon meringue. She was an expert knitter who made beautiful sweaters, hats and mittens, not only for her own family, but also for the homeless. She was an avid bridge player, always looking for partners.

As her children grew older, Edith worked in marketing at Holo-Krome Co., in West Hartford, CT. After retiring from Holo-Krome, she became a stenographer, working in the Connecticut court system.

Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Hugh W. Miller. She is survived by three children: Hugh Wilson Miller, Jr. and his wife Patricia Miller of Winter Springs, Florida; Susan Miller Lefebvre and her husband Philip Lefebvre of Naples, Florida; and John Brown Miller and his wife Joan Miller, of Winchester, Massachusetts.

Edith is also survived by six grandchildren: John B. Miller of Winchester, MA; Edward B. Lefebvre, of Saratoga Springs, NY: Rachel E. Lefebvre of Lakeland, FL; Jennie E. Burel of Gilbert, AZ; Douglas W. Miller of Needham, MA; Mary E. Miller of Alexandria, VA; and by ten great-grandchildren. Edith loved them all, especially as babies.

In addition, Edith is survived by her beloved niece Maryanne Edwards of Bolton, CT, and her life-long friend Mabel Yeterian of New Britain, CT, also NBHS Class of 1943.

For many years, Edith was a member of First Church of Christ, New Britain, CT. After moving to Independent Living at Lutheran Haven, she was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Oviedo, FL.
