George A. "Buddy" Mcintyre Jr.

George A. “Buddy” McIntyre, Jr. (85) of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1940 in Houlton, Maine to the late George and Annie (Harris) McIntyre.

After high school, Buddy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for four years during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then served two years in the Army National Guard, where he was part of the reserve unit manning the Nike missile base in Cromwell, Connecticut.

During his time as a driver for C.R.L. Bus Company, Buddy met his future wife, Judi Simeone. Their leisure time was spent exhibiting at juried craft shows, taking road trips and vacations, entertaining friends and family by their pool, and celebrating at family gatherings. Buddy and Judi enjoyed 35 wonderful years together until her passing in 2007.

For 34 years, Buddy was a dedicated member of the custodial staff at Mary E. Griswold Elementary School, Berlin before retiring in 2004. In his retirement, he loved walking at Timberlin Golf Course, taking trips to the casino, and traveling to Maine, which always brought back fond memories of his youth. He also enjoyed discovering and dining at new restaurants.

Buddy was known for his gift of storytelling - engaging and entertaining others with narratives drawn from things he had read, seen, or experienced. With his dry and unique sense of humor, he could weave a convincing tale that often left his audience questioning its authenticity. Young nieces and nephews would listen and marvel at their Uncle Buddy’s elaborate stories. This trait, of course, brought a lot of laughter to coworkers, friends, and family.

Buddy is survived by his niece, Laura (Jeffrey) Leger of Bristol, CT and his nephew, Robert (Denise) McIntyre of Plainville, CT. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and their spouses, John (Catherine) Simeone of Berlin, and Chris (Sue) Simeone of Newington; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Catherine Lapollo, Terri (Larry) Noyes, and Tina (Dan) Doyle, all of Berlin.  In addition to Laura and Robert, Buddy leaves twelve nieces and nephews: John Eric (Jen) Simeone, Jenny (Lee) Tine, Alyssa (Michael) Glaser (his goddaughter), Scott, (Jennie) Lapollo, Celine Noyes (fiancé Adam Hasting), Crystal Noyes (Kristi Breznick), Christy (Nick) Servies (his goddaughter), Joe Noyes, Katie and Maggie Doyle, Molly (Harrison) Nichols, and Kelsey Simeone (fiancé Alex Ott) as well as eighteen great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Judi, Buddy was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, William and David; his sisters-in-law, Marie Simeone and Donna McIntyre; and his brother-in-law, Mark Lapollo.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Larry and Joe Noyes for the devoted care they provided to Buddy during these past years as he battled cancer.
