Gloria Valerie (Cavagna) Horbal, 94, of Berlin, widow of Michael Horbal after 65 years of marriage, passed away Saturday evening (October 13, 2018) in her home of more than 60 years. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Angelo and the late Mary (Pesente) Cavagna, she graduated from Hartford High School in 1941, and was employed as a telephone operator for SNET during the 1940's before becoming a full time mom, the job she loved the most. She enjoyed spending summer vacations with her family at the Connecticut shore, and going to "Bingo Night" with her sisters. A loving mother, grandmother, and soon to be great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her children, Linda Miga and her husband David of Kensington, and James Horbal and his wife Bonnie of Berlin, her granddaughter Ashley Aust and her husband Kevin of Newington, her grandson Brian Miga and his fiancee Krysta Dessereaux of Waterford, her granddaughter Dr. Bethany Horbal and her fiance Brian Kluberdanz of Stanford, her grandson Gregory Horbal and his partner Shaina Weissman of Brooklyn, New York, her brother John Cavagna of Holland, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Angelo Cavagna, and her sisters Virginia Masini, Edith Cavagna, Rose Corvi, and Sylvia Todaro. A heartfelt thanks is given to her caring and compassionate caregivers, Deloris, Tebogo, Marilyn, and Muffet. Also a special thanks to the Berlin VNA and Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (October 17, 2018) at 10:30am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am at St. Paul's Church on Alling Street. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cemetery in New Britain.
