Harry Frank Sampl, 91, of Kensington, widower of Emily Eleanor (Zadrowski) Sampl, died Thursday evening (February 16, 2017) at home with his family at his side. Born in Kensington, son of the late John and the late Mary Sampl, he attended Berlin Schools, was employed at Ferndale Dairy, served in the US Army in WWII where he received two Purple Hearts, and retired from Atlantic Machine Tool in Newington. He was a member of St. Paul's Church, and a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Maureen Sampl of Enfield, and Richard Sampl of Meriden, a brother, John Sampl of Kensington, four grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Kevin, and Rebecca, four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Carson, Ethan, and Owen, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Eileen Sampl. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (February 22, 2017) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a funeral liturgy at 10am at St. Paul's Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday (February 21, 2017) from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
