Howard "Howie" Larson Jr.

Howard “Howie” Larson Jr., a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and friend to many, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. He was 70.

Howie was larger than life—a man whose kindness, generosity, and infectious spirit left a mark on everyone he met. Known by many names, including Grampy, Uncle Howie and Grandpa Howie, he was the person everyone turned to for advice, a helping hand, or simply a good laugh. His extended family was not limited by blood; it encompassed anyone lucky enough to cross his path.

Born and raised in Cheshire, CT with summers in Branford, Howie also called Southington, Berlin, and Haddam home during his life. He was a proud union electrician with IBEW Local 90 and spent the 20 years of his career with Eversource before his retirement. He dedicated his professional career to his craft and his colleagues.

Howie’s life was defined by his love for his family and community. He is survived by his devoted wife, Trish; his daughter, Erika Skinnon; his son, Kurt and partner Lauren O’Keefe; his stepdaughter, Melissa Maura and husband Chet Maura; stepdaughter, Sara Ferrier; grandchildren, Daniel Maura, Brooke Maura and Liliana Skinnon; sister, Nancy Malloy and husband Mark; brother, Stephen, Sr. and wife Terri and brother, Kris and wife Donna; and countless nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Sr., and Shirley Larson, whom he cherished deeply. He will leave behind a legacy of love and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A tireless volunteer, Howie was a proud member of the Berlin Lions Club, the Berlin Italian Political Independent Club, and a dedicated supporter of the Special Olympics. Whether it was organizing events, cheering on athletes, or pitching in wherever help was needed, Howie gave of himself generously.

A man of many passions, Howie loved animals, especially his German shepherds Sadie, Ella and Max, and the farm animals on his property. He loved music – especially the works of Tower of Power. He was a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast and a devoted hockey fan. He traveled far and wide to support his favorite teams, including the Hartford Whalers, the Quinnipiac University Men’s Hockey Team, and the Australian National Hockey Team.

Above all else he loved his family. He was the guy who always stepped up to coach, cheer, or lend a hand for any sport or activity his kids or grandkids wanted to try.

A celebration of Howie’s incredible life will be held on Sunday, January 12th at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home in Berlin, Connecticut. Calling hours will be from 9:00am to 12:00pm with a memorial service at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Berlin Lions VIP Fishing Tournament or Make-A-Wish, two organizations that were dear to his heart.

Howard “Howie” Larson Jr.’s warmth, humor, and selflessness will be missed beyond measure. His family and friends take comfort in knowing his light will continue to shine through the lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Howie. You were a friend to all. You will forever be loved.
