Irene M. DiPace, 88, of Kensington, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025 surrounded by family at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.
Irene was born on March 22, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Louis Scarfo and Natalie (Lazzaro) Scarfo of New Britain. She also worked at the Walnut Hill Convalescent Home and New Britain General Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Kensington.
After retiring from her nursing career, Irene spent most of her days helping raise her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene spent her leisure time at the shore in Old Lyme, taking drives to Roger's Orchard with her grandchildren and spoiling her granddogs. She savored coffee and pastries with her childhood friend, Agnes Hartan, and enjoyed countless lunch dates with her friends from DPH, swim class, and nursing school.
Irene was predeceased by her two brothers, Louis and Donald Scarfo. She is survived by her sister, Carol Cannito, and two daughters and son in laws, Donna and Jeffrey Veach of Kensington and Diane and Michael Charette of Cromwell. Irene's daughters and their families were her world. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Heather Cios (Steven), Callie Lawrence (Austin), Matthew Barden (Sara Daghestani) and Audra Veach (Joseph Rappoccio). Additionally, Irene leaves behind her greatest adoration in life, her three great-grandchildren, Sofia and Harvey Cios and Trevor Lawrence.
