James Day

James "Jim" Day, 64, of Kensington, loving husband of Lynne (Cavanaugh) Day, died Thursday (February 22, 2018) at The Hospital of Central, Connecticut, New Britain. Born in New York, NY, son of the late Hugh Day and Ida (Mastrantuono) Day-Matra and her husband Frank, he graduated from Lakeland High School in New Jersey, and received his Bachelor's degree in special education from Central Connecticut State University, and his Master's degree in special education from St. Joseph's University in West Hartford. He was a special education teacher, coach, and athletic director at Berlin High School for thirty-six and one half year until 2014, and was a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Berlin Athletic Hall of Fame where he was a founder and served on the Board of Directors. In addition to his wife, his mother, and his step-father, he is survived by a son, Shane Day of Kensington, two sisters, Denise Carrozza in New Jersey, and Sue Anne Phillips in Florida, and several nieces and nephews. THE CORRECT TIME of the Memorial Mass will be Tuesday (February 27, 2018) at 10am DIRECTLY at St. Paul's Church, 467 Alling Street, Kensington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, on Monday (February 26, 2018) from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the Jim Day Memorial Scholarship, c/o Berlin High School, 139 Patterson Way, Berlin, CT 06037.
