Jeannette L. (Smith) Flavell

Jeannette L. (Smith) Flavell, 89, beloved widow of Robert W. "Bob" Flavell, died early Friday morning (August 17, 2018) at Masonicare in Wallingford with her family comforting her in her last hours following acute illness. Born August 2, 1929 in Hartford, daughter of the late James and the late Ella (Holmes) Smith, she graduated from Buckley High School, and married Bob, her high school sweetheart, in 1950, to form many friendships that lasted their entire lives. Jeannette and Bob resided and raised their family in East Hartford, spending summers at their cottage on Cape Cod, and moving there upon their retirement in the 1990's while spending winter with their daughter Linda's family in Florida for twenty years. They moved to an independent living arrangement at Masonicare in 2012 where they both remained active and volunteered, and Jeannette most recently received an award for obtaining the most volunteer hours. Her home was known as a place where friends and family were always warmly and graciously welcomed, and her other preoccupation was her love for all animals. She loved to feed the birds, and named all of the chipmunks living and feeding at her birdfeeders, and she enjoyed her time rehabilitating injured birds as a volunteer at Wildcare on Cape Cod. Jeannette is survived by a son, James Wesley Flavell and his wife Sandra of Cheshire, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Robert Randall of Englewood, Florida, and Susan and Daniel Lawlor of Bolton, five grandchildren, James, Emily, Brian, Jennie, and Sean, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased b a sister, Eleanor, and an infant brother, James. A memorial service will be held Tuesday (August 21, 2018) at 1:30pm in the Masonicare Chapel, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Her family would like to thank the Masonicare Hospice Caregivers for their kind help in making her final days as comfortable as possible.
