Joan Frances Calvo

September 12, 1945 – July 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Frances (Treichel) Calvo on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Joan passed away after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.

Beloved wife of Richard C. Calvo; devoted mother to Christine Fusciello, Jennifer Sider (James Tuttle) and Richard A. Calvo; adoring grandmother to Marco and Michael Fusciello; cherished sister to brothers William Treichel, Robert Treichel, Alvin Treichel, and Thomas Treichel and their families; and dear friend to many more.

Joan was born and raised in New Britain and Plainville, CT and is predeceased by her parents Rudolph and Grace Treichel. Once married, Joan and her husband moved to Southington, CT where they happily resided for over 50 years. Here Joan devoted herself to raising her children, the proudest of her life’s accomplishments.

Joan later worked for 17 years as a Medical Assistant in the Oncology Department of Grove Hill Medical Center until she retired.  She was also an active and long standing member of Wellspring Church in Kensington, where her love for children resulted in a decade of service in the church nursery.  She spent countless hours in prayer circles, Bible studies, knitting groups, and in the counsel of others with the Bethesda Healing Ministry. Her wisdom, loving kindness and dedication to the service of others, touched many lives.

A private family funeral service will be held at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, and burial will follow at Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Wellspring Church at a later date.

Our loss is immeasurable, but so too is the love Joan leaves behind. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
