John G. McKechnie

John G. McKechnie, 77, of Berlin, beloved husband of Jane E. (Wrobel) McKechnie for 49 years, passed away on January 6, 2026 at Middlesex Hospital.

Born in West Haven, John was the son of the late Robert and Phyliss (Nowakunski) McKechnie. John was a former Meriden and Wallingford resident before moving to Berlin 24 years ago. John was a member of St. Paul Church and the Rotary Club of Meriden. He was actively involved with Boy Scouts for the past 60 years serving as a troop leader and other positions.

John is survived by his wife, Jane E. McKechnie; three brothers, Robert McKechnie and his wife Adrianne, Ed McKechnie and his companion Ellen, and Greg McKechnie and his wife Rose; his devoted caregiver, Rodney; and several nieces and nephews including Bonnie Newman. Also surviving are Jane’s “little sister” Mindy Parent and her husband Bernie; and his beloved cat, Collin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Paul Church, 461 Alling St., Berlin. Please meet directly at church. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-6 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin. Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
