Joseph G. Motta

Joseph Motta, a loving 50 year old father of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Vito and Elena (Lorefice) Motta.

Joseph was a New Britain resident before moving to Berlin 23 years ago. He was formerly employed at the State of CT Department of Corrections and upon retirement from there, he was then employed with the Highway Department at the Town of Berlin.

Joe was an avid member of the Berlin community, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Joe loved nothing more than spending time with his children and was heavily involved in all three of their sports. He dedicated much of his time coaching and volunteering for the Berlin Bears and Berlin High School Football programs. Joe was a member of the St. Paul Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends, creating lifelong memories. Joe's spirit of generosity and wholeheartedness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Surviving are his twins, Olivia Motta and Michael Motta; his younger son, Thomas Motta; his brother, Dennis Motta and his wife, Rachel; his uncles, Tony Lorefice and his wife, Rose, and Nello Motta and his wife, Lucilla, in Sortino, Italy; his cousins, Alicia Lorefice, Joey Lorefice, Linda Motta, and Maria Chiara; his girlfriend, Kim Daly; and his former wife, Tracy Motta.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024 at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Paul Church. Burial will be at Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
