Joseph Polumbo Jr.

Joseph Polumbo Jr., 72, passed away on September 16, 2026 at Middlesex Hospital following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Polumbo, his true life partner and devoted caretaker, on May 31, 2026.

Joe was born on December 25, 1953 in New Britain Connecticut, to Joseph Polumbo Sr. and Sophie (Kamatos) Polumbo.

He spent much of his childhood in New Britain before attending military school in his early adolescent years. He was a proud graduate of Robinson School in West Hartford, Connecticut, and later attended the University of Miami where he met his wife, Mary. Joe ultimately earned his Gemological degree and proudly followed his family’s footsteps by entering the jewelry business.

For many years, Joe worked alongside his father at Polumbo Jewelers in New Britain before opening his own store Polumbo Jewelers in Southington. His business became one of his greatest sources of pride and joy.

Joe lived his life by the motto, “if at first you don’t succeed try and try again”, and it set the foundation for his life. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, boating and enjoying a nice meal with family and friends.

After Joe suffered a brain injury, Mary remained faithfully by his side every step of the way. Through her love and care, Joe was able to continue doing many of the things he enjoyed. Although things slowed down physically for Joe, his quick wit and sharp mind remained an important part of who he was.

Joe will be deeply missed by his daughter Jackie Stevens and her husband Pat of Berlin; his daughter Krista Polumbo and her husband Jon Imbo of Saratoga Springs, NY; and his grandchildren Kennedy and Hudson Stevens.
