Joseph Rapisarda

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the world suddenly lost one of the Good Guys.  Joseph Rapisarda, 60, loving “sweat” heart of Lynne (Laferriere) Rapisarda for over 40 years, passed away with his beloved family by his side.  Joe was the ultimate family man- a loving son, married to the love of his life Lynne for 40 years, the best dad to Joe and Olivia, and such a proud grandfather to Harper and Hazel, his pride and joy.  Not to mention the incredible love he had for his entire extended family and friends.

Born on December 15, 1962 to Giuseppe and Rosa (Lanteri) Rapisarda, he spent his lifetime residing in New Britain; and was known as “Little Joe” to his Belmont St. family.  He graduated from New Britain High School in 1981.  There he met the love of his life, Lynne. They married in 1983.  Together, they raised two wonderful children; and created a beautiful life. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on November 26 with a family gathering.

Joseph worked for over 35 years at Hartford Hospital. He was respected and valued, not to mention loved, colleague by all who knew him. He will truly be missed.

Besides his wife Lynne, he is survived by his son Joseph Rapisarda and his wife Christina of Middletown; his daughter Olivia Rapisarda and her partner, Daryl DeBoer of New Britain; and his precious granddaughters, Harper and Hazel DeBoer, the lights of his life. They will miss their Pop-Pop.  He also leaves his mother, Rosa Rapisarda; his sister Katia Bocompani and her husband Peter, along with their children, Sofia and Peter IV; niece Alessandra and her husband Rob Montz, and their daughter, Josephine; and nephew Nicholas Carlone. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins, both here and in Italy. He was predeceased by his firstborn son, Sebastian; his sister Lorena Carlone; and father, Giuseppe “Pippo” Rapisarda.

Joe’s funeral service will begin on Saturday, December 16 at 9:30 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Britain. He will be entombed in the St. Mary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 15 from 4pm – 7pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin.

The family is indebted to the New Britain EMS, Fire and Police Departments, The Hospital of Central CT, Hartford Hospital, and the Life Star Crew.

Though heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing that he will see his sister Lorena, his father, and his son Sebastian again.
