Joseph Gerald “Yock” Ayotte, 75, of Berlin, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 at the West Haven VA Medical Center.
Born in St. Agatha, ME, he was the son of the late Albert and Ann Marie (Paradis) Ayotte. Gerald was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1968 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Gerald was formerly employed as a carpenter and plumber. He was an overall handyman and a jack of all trades. Gerald was always willing to help others. He had a wonderful personality, an infectious laugh, was loved by all, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the American Legion Post 68, and the Berlin VFW Post 10732. He was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are four brothers, Antoine Ayotte, Sylvio Ayotte and his wife Nora, Richard Ayotte and his wife Joan, Jean-Paul Ayotte and his wife Dione; three sisters, Albertine Dufour, Jeannine Gallegos, and Rita Thibeault; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by three brothers, Bertrand, Norman and Reginald. The family would like to thank the West Haven VA Medical Center for their exemplary service at the ICU and the hospice nurses and doctors who took care of our loved brother.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, with a service to be held at 1:00 PM. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Haven VA Medical Center.
