Lewis Charles Pia, age 73, of Berlin, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Munds Park, Arizona. Born to the late Charles and Shirley Pia of Berlin, Connecticut, Lewis grew up in town, where he belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as an altar boy in his youth. He attended Berlin High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Virginia.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Virginia Ventres Pia; his daughter and son-in-law, Angela Pia Chafee and Jared Chafee of Burlington, CT; and his two much-adored granddaughters, Ava and Emma. He was predeceased by his sister, Andrea Pia Smith of Berlin, CT.
Lewis was an Electrical Engineer, retired from RZ Design in Rocky Hill, CT. He and Virginia lived in Connecticut, moved to Newark, VT, for many years, and later became residents of Sahuarita, AZ, and Munds Park, AZ—an area they deeply loved.
A true outdoorsman, Lewis loved hiking, golfing, fishing, and hunting. He and Virginia spent many wonderful years touring the country in their RV and serving as camp managers throughout Utah and Colorado. Lewis was a master of all trades; as a skilled electrician, carpenter, and plumber, he was the ultimate fixer. His truest gift was his unwavering willingness to assist anyone in need. He leaves behind many dear friends, in-laws, and nieces and nephews who loved him as Uncle Lew.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Lewis was a long-time member of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Sahuarita, Arizona, where he earned his 3rd-degree membership with the Knights of Columbus and served with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Most recently, he had become a parishioner of San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church in Flagstaff.
Funeral Services will be held July 31, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Kensington, CT, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the VFW.
