Obituary

Louise Patricia (Sarlo) DeRosa, age 97 of Berlin, CT, passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family on June 29, 2026. She was born on December 28, 1928 to the late Arcangelo Sarlo and Teresa (Padovano) Sarlo, in Brooklyn, NY. She was raised in Brooklyn and resided there until 2007, when she moved to Connecticut with her loving husband Mario to be close to family. She remained a Brooklyn girl through and through, but also enjoyed her life in Connecticut, despite it being “too quiet here.”

Louise and Mario were inseparable. Mario was the love of her life. They met in their teens and were subsequently married for 70 years before his passing in 2024. They went everywhere together and enjoyed going to hear music, seeing theater, eating out, taking vacations, shopping, and of course visiting with family. Birthdays, family cookouts, and holidays were big events and always celebrated enthusiastically. Louise was known to burst into song having a good voice and “attitude.” She enjoyed all types of music, especially Frank Sinatra. She was also a great dancer and she and Mario would be out on the dance floor at concerts and weddings “cutting the rug.”

Prior to marriage, Louise worked in the mailroom at Pacific Mills in Brooklyn, and then as a clerk in a law office in Manhattan. Once married, Louise was a dedicated homemaker and a wonderful, loving mom. She and Mario raised three daughters of whom they were very proud and who they loved dearly. Louise taught her daughters to be strong, independent women and to be loving and kind. Later in life, she loved to venture into the city to hear music or go to the park with Mario for long walks. Spending time with her family was always her favorite activity. When she couldn’t be with them, she enjoyed chatting on the phone and regularly checked in, “just to see how things were going” and to catch up on family news.

Louise is survived by her daughter Patricia DeRosa, her daughter Janet DeRosa and husband Mitch Margold, her daughter Susan DeRosa and husband Jeff Cahoon, and her two wonderful grandchildren Sophia Cahoon and Noah Cahoon, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Norma (DeRosa) Morizio and by many nieces and nephews and their children. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

In addition to her late parents and husband, Louise is predeceased by her sisters Catherine Sarlo and Rose (Sarlo) Sagistano, and brothers Vincent, Anthony, Salvatore, Ralph, Eugene, Frank and Carmine Sarlo.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm, and on Monday, July 6 from 10-11 am, at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, CT, followed by a Funeral Mass on Monday, July 6 at 12 noon at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 47 West High Street, in East Hampton, CT.
