Margaret "Peggy" (Vanderbilt) Shepard

Margaret (Vanderbilt) Shepard, known as Peggy, 92, died peacefully at Avery Heights in Hartford. She attended the Oxford School in West Hartford, and Strafford College in Virginia. Spending most of her life living in Kensington, she was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, in New Britain, the Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Masons Island Yacht Club, and was an active member of the Junior League of New Britain. In 2010 she was recognized by New Britain General Hospital for 50 years of volunteer service. She leaves two daughters, Katharine Shepard of Hartford, and Sarah Shepard Whyte of Osterville, MA, a son Dan Shepard and his wife Lee Steppacher of Norwich VT, 3 grandchildren, Alison Thompson, Hillary Moore and Miles Whyte of West Tisbury, MA, 2 great grandchildren, and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Jack Dobbin in Florida. She had a sense of humor, laugh, and a reputation for saying what she was thinking. Peggy had a passion for fun, whether it was being with friends and family or playing sports and games. She also had a wonderful ability to laugh at herself, and had a strong belief that how you play the game was more important than winning. A celebration of her life will be held at Saturday (May 19, 2018) at 11:00am at the First Church of Christ, 830 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT. In lieu of flowers donations can be to Avery Heights Transportation Department, 550 Avery Heights, Hartford, CT 06106.
