The family of Mariann Melinosky is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the age of 71 years following a brief but intense battle with cancer.
Mariann will be especially missed by her lesser half Dennis Melinosky, her husband of 49 years. Mariann and Dennis loved each other like giddy teenagers and reminded us that soulmates are indeed real. Mariann is survived by her three successful and handsome sons, Michael (wife Diane and children Dylan and Logan), Christopher (wife Amy and children Sara, Adam and Owen) and Steven (wife Amy and daughter Sophia). Mariann is also survived by her sister Kathryn Mahoney (husband Mark), brother Thomas Jakubczyk (partner Mary Anne) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother Angelina Jakubczyk (nee LaRosa) and father Walter Jakubczyk.
Mariann was born in New Britain, CT and attended private Catholic schools. She found a passion in helping other people and was naturally drawn to nursing. She graduated from the Saint Francis School of Nursing and immediately began serving vulnerable patients in hospitals and nursing homes. Mariann was a pioneer of compassion during the AIDS epidemic, attending to patients at a time of great misinformation and fear – a testament to her caring and selfless heart.
Mariann’s lifelong passion for caring for others grew as she became a grandmother. She was happiest spoiling her grandchildren with toys, ice cream and shrimp rings. Mariann’s nurturing nature could also be seen in her gardening; wherever there was a vibrant and green plant, there was a proud Mariann with her green thumb. Mariann was famous in her neighborhood for growing too many vegetables and sharing more tomatoes, cucumbers and blueberries than any family could possibly eat – but it was her way of showing her neighbors how much she cared for them. Mariann loved all animals, but had a special place in her heart for the dogs in her life (whether or not they were hers).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Church. Please meet directly at church. Calling hours are Monday, February 23, 2026 from 3-5 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, CT 06037. Mariann sent a monthly donation to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, and donations made to children in need in her name would honor her memory.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Hospital of Central Connecticut for their care and compassion.
