Mario D’Amore, 74, of Berlin, husband of Marie D’Amore, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.
Born in Abbateggio, Italy, he was the son of the late Stefano and Maria Belinda D’Amore. Mario was a former New Britain resident, moving to Berlin in 1970. He was formerly employed by Fafnir Bearing, Pratt & Whitney, and lastly as a stone mason contractor before retiring. Mario was a member of St. Paul Church and the Italian Political Independent Club. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, trips to Mohegan Sun Casino, setback and bocce games, gardening, and most importantly taking walks with his cat.
Surviving him are his beloved wife, Marie (Ricci) D’Amore; three children and their spouses, Lori and Tim Oakes of Berlin, Marsi and Larry Arnold of San Jose, CA, Marc and Eva D’Amore of Berlin; a sister, Palmerina Dell’Oso of New Britain; seven grandchildren, Grace Arnold, Marc D’Amore, Sofia Oakes, Paul D’Amore, Madeline Arnold, Julia Oakes, and Jonathan D’Amore; and his beloved cat, Freddie. Additionally, he is survived by sister-in-laws Carina and Eva D’Amore, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins here in the US and in Italy. He was predeceased by two brothers, Giuseppe and Dante D’Amore, and brother-in-law Valeriano Dell’Oso.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Kevin Watson and the entire ICU staff of the Hospital of Central Connecticut for their care, kindness and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at St. Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-6 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin/Porter’s, 111 Chamberlain Hwy, Kensington.
