Mark Anthony Greenland, 55, of East Berlin departed this life on March 8, 2017, in Berlin, CT. He was born on February 13, 1962, in Durham, NC to Roy A. Greenland and the late Alma J. Greenland. As an IBM child, he moved several times, but was raised in Princeton, NJ. While in school he excelled in sports and academics, qualifying as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, and lettering in varsity football, lacrosse, and track. After graduating from Princeton High School in 1980, he went to Trinity College, majoring in Russian Studies, and attended the University of Hartford, studying communication. He began his career as a paralegal, then transitioned to financial consulting and sales. In addition to his corporate career, Mark gained international acclaim as a house music DJ and writer. He was a pioneer in the local punk, hip hop, alternative and house music scenes. As a DJ he helped to break acts as varied as Run-DMC, RuPaul, Tackhead, Nitzer Ebb, UltraNate, and Living Colour. He is internationally recognized as a champion of house, techno and electronica. Mark is survived by his sisters, Allegra Sinclair, and Monica Greenland; his step-brother, Jeff Spikes, his beloved partner, Michele Sensale, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends in Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, New Jersey and worldwide. He will always be remembered as a brilliant, humble, passionate, fiercely protective man who valued his relationships with people and music.
