Matthew Salvatore Butera, son of Salvatore Butera and Emanuela (Albanese) Butera, came to a peaceful eternal rest on February 18, 2025 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, surrounded by the love of his family. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Angeline Marie (Larco) Butera.
Matthew’s faith and family were the center of his life. He was a resident of Kensington, CT, a devout Catholic, and a proud member of St. Paul’s Church for over 60 years. He was born in New Britain, CT, graduating from EC Goodwin Tech, after which, he became a journeyman tool and die maker. He went on to work at Atlantic Machine Tool Works, then founded Accurate Machine and Tool, and later became a founding partner of Metal Form Company. He was a visionary, passionate creator, and problem solver who could fix anything. He was known at Atlantic Tool and Machine as “Little Matt”, but there was no job too big for him. After his distinguished career, he enjoyed spending his winters in St. Petersburg, FL with his wife, and visits from his children, and grandchildren. He forged a lifelong bond with friends who also frequented St. Petersburg. He was an avid golfer and member of the Senior Men’s Club at Timberlin Golf Course, in Berlin, CT. Through his retirement, Matthew could be found at the local Senior Center, enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation with friends, supporting the UConn Women’s basketball team, or wandering the aisles at Home Depot. Matthew was known as a true gentleman with a tender soul. His calm and loving disposition will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Matthew is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Deborah and William Barker, his daughter and son-in-law Diane and Frederick Pindar, and his son Matthew Butera Jr. and Janet Milardo. He also leaves his beloved granddaughters Kristie and her husband Justin Seeger, Kimberly and her husband Daniel Matthews, Allison and her husband Michael Pinto. He will be dearly missed by his grandson Matthew Pindar and his wife Lindsey, and his grandson Michael Pindar. He leaves behind eight great grandchildren who cherished their time spent with him. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Adeline Cefaratti, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was predeceased by brother Carmelo Joseph "Joe" Butera; brothers in-law Bernard Larco, Michael Larco, Felix Larco, Pasquale Vaccariello, Joseph Cefaratti; sisters in-law, Marguerite Mary (Scalise) Butera, Edith Vaccariello, Francis Larco , Catherine Debenian; and nephew Frank Cefaratti.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Hospital of Central CT, especially Dr. Rekha Singh, Chief of Surgery, and the ICU staff. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, CT. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling St. Kensington, CT. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
