Patricia A. (Nugent) Lombardi

Patricia A. (Nugent) Lombardi, 91, of Berlin, CT, beloved wife of the late Guy P. Lombardi, passed away peacefully at her home on October 13, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Born on February 15, 1935 in Glen Cove, NY, she was the daughter of the late Margaret W. (Scarlett) and John A. Nugent. Pat graduated from St. Patrick's Grammar School in Glen Cove, L.I., N.Y., with the Class of February 1949 and Glen Cove High School with the Class of 1952. She went on to graduate from the Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in New York City with the Class of 1955, an accomplishment she remained proud of throughout her life. She valued the education she received there, which prepared her to adapt to a variety of situations throughout her nursing career. She remained a member of the Lenox Hill Hospital Alumnae Association since her graduation in 1955. She began her nursing career in Pediatrics at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she worked from September 1955 to September 1957. That same month, she married Guy P. Lombardi on September 28, 1957 at St. Patrick's Church in Glen Cove, NY. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage until Guy's passing on June 5, 2020. Shortly after they got married, Pat and Guy bought their home in Berlin, Connecticut and she continued her nursing career at New Britain General Hospital (now the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain Campus). After an initial period of employment from November 1957 to February 1959, she returned January 1963 until her retirement in October 1998.

During her more than 35 years of nursing at New Britain General Hospital, Pat primarily worked as a bedside nurse, serving in the emergency department, Med/Surgical units and other areas, including OB/GYN, ICU, NICU and Recovery Room. In 1986, she moved to outpatient clinics where she remained until her retirement in 1998. Her dedication to nursing continued as she worked on call in the clinic until her full retirement in August 2008. Throughout her life, Pat was active in her church and community. She was a member of the St. Theresa and St. Elizabeth's Mother Circle and taught religious education at St. Paul’s for 5 years. She participated in the Brigham & Women’s Health study from 1994 to 2004 and participated in Sister Study Breast Cancer Research from 2005 up until her passing. Pat was also a member of St. Paul's Church for over 60 years and thankful for the many friendships she made there.

As longtime residents of Berlin, Pat and Guy were among the last original homeowners on their street, having made their home there for more than 65 years. Pat cherished visits with her family and enjoyed keeping in touch with relatives and friends by phone. She especially enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to her yard and gardens and watching the birds gather at her bird feeders from her kitchen window. Pat enjoyed visiting the library and reading fiction mystery novels, doing jigsaw puzzles and word games on her computer and iPad and researching the Nugent and Lombardi family genealogy. She loved baking holiday cookies, making hundreds of cookies in all varieties and sharing tins of them with family during the holiday season. Pat also held a special place in her heart for her beloved miniature black poodles, who were cherished companions throughout her life. Pat will be remembered for her strength and remarkable memory, as well as her genuine interest in the lives of those around her. She was always asking about family and friends, making sure everyone was doing well. Pat was fiercely independent and strong-willed, qualities that stayed with her throughout her life. Even into her 90s, she could be found spending an entire hot summer day working in her yard. Pat will be remembered for the strong, independent woman she was, her thoughtfulness toward others and the love she had for her family and the home she cared for with her husband, Guy, over so many years.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Michael and his wife Elizabeth Lombardi of Wethersfield, CT; Thomas and his wife Laurie Lombardi of Slingerlands, NY; and Robert and his wife Janice Lombardi of Maryville, TN. She leaves seven grandchildren: Nicole (Eric) Hurd, Brian (Sara) Lombardi, Christina (Stefan) Kolcow, Stephanie (Frank) Ciapala, Isabelle (Dan) Ruddy, Michael Lombardi, and Rachel (Erica) Carboni. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Jamie, Ewan, Giovanni and Giulia.

Pat leaves behind her sister, Jean Nugent of Canyon Country, CA; her niece Heather Paluso and her husband David Null of Valencia, CA; her grandnephew Jonathan Michael Null; her cousin Claire Donohue; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews on the Lombardi side. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Guy, and her sister Dolores Nugent.

Pat’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Andrea Brandl, Pat’s long-time neighbor and dear friend. Pat placed great trust in Andrea, who always kept a watchful eye over her and looked out for her safety and well-being. In addition, her family would like to thank the medical professionals from Hartford Healthcare and Hospice (Susan) who cared for Pat. Her family would also like to thank Carmen, Wanda and Enid who treated Pat with genuine warmth and love, caring for her as though she were a member of their own family. The comfort they gave Pat and the kindness they showed her family will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
