Paul De Grandi, 89, of Kensington, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Born in Tripoli, Libya, and raised in Floridia, Sicily, Paul was the beloved son of the late Antonio and Giuseppa (Amodeo) De Grandi. He spent 45 years in New Britain before settling in Kensington, where he lived for the past 25 years. Paul dedicated 38 years of service to Corbin Russwin in New Britain and was a longtime member of St. Paul's Church.
A passionate cook, Paul was best known for his delicious scacciata, a family favorite he prepared and delivered with love. He also enjoyed watching soccer, listening to Italian opera, and tending to his garden. He took great pride in hosting Christmas Eve every year, bringing everyone together through his profound love for his family. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his great-nieces and great-nephews, whose lives he brightened with warmth, laughter, and love.
He is survived by two brothers: Joseph De Grandi and his wife Sandra of Cheshire, and Mario De Grandi and his wife Juanita of Kensington. He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews: Josie Cardinale, Tony De Grandi, Susan Addona, Anthony De Grandi, Mary Jo De Grandi-Caraway, and Melissa Statchen, along with his great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss him dearly - Bryan, Michael, Nicholas, David, Gianna, Amy, Angela, Hannah, Nina, Benjamin, Rocco, Vincent, Olivia, Archer, and Mairen.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his brother, Carmelo De Grandi, and his niece, Tina Marie De Grandi.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Fernando and Nancy from the home care agency, Chosen to Give, as well as to hospice nurses Susan and Melanie, for their compassionate care and support.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m., prior to the service. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Bread through the Anthonian Association at www.stanthonylostandfound.org, in memory of Paul.
