Peter P. Fliss Sr.

Peter Fliss, Sr., 90, of Berlin, formerly of New Britain, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 11th at The Jerome Home in New Britain. He was able to celebrate his 65th wedding anniversary, one week earlier, with his loving wife, Louise (Bocwinski) Fliss. He was born in Dupont, PA, son of the late John Fliss and Anna (Mazur) Fliss. After graduating from high school, Peter worked in the steel mill and then enlisted into the U.S. Army (3/11 ACR tank leader) serving during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1955 he followed other family members to CT where he started his career as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney that spanned more than 38 years until he retired to help take care of his grandchildren.

Peter was a kind-hearted soul that wanted for nothing except to be surrounded by his family and friends with good food, drink and laughter. He was a devout catholic earning the St. Joseph’s Medal at St. Maurice Church in New Britain where he was a member until its closing. He loved to garden, bake, make flower arrangements and wreaths that were equivalent to a professional florist. But his specialty was his homemade sauerkraut (requested each year by all) and homemade pirogis that he has since passed on to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Louise, Peter leaves behind his three children and their spouses to mourn his loss, Peter and Michelle, Tom and Mary and Christine and Rick. Peter was predeceased by his youngest son Andy who met him at the gates of heaven ready to get to work. Peter also leaves behind his eight grandchildren Chris (Lindsey) Fliss, Nick (Sarah) Fliss, Alexia Fliss, Matthew (Jillian) Algiere, Justin Fliss, Mitchell Fliss, Garrett Fliss and Aiden Fliss and his five great grandchildren Carmela, Maverick, William, Dominic and Delilah. He also leaves behind his two sisters Rita Wilk and Violet Fliss and his brother-in-law Buddy Mullen. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Jerome Home East Wing for the loving, compassionate care that they gave to Peter right up until the very end.
