Richard E. Wearne, Sr., 82 of East Berlin, formerly of Tolland, passed away on October 5, 2018 after a long, brave battle with cancer. Born in New Britain on April 3, 1936 to the late William and Margaret (Wiscavage) Wearne, Richard attended New Britain Schools until he entered the United States Marine Corps in June 1954. He received his GED through the Marine Corps on February 28, 1956. While in the Marines, he became a Field Radio Operator, and was honorably discharged in June 1957. Richard was employed as a truck driver for the Local 671 for over 40 years. He is an active member of the Marine Corps League Hardware City Detachment #781. He served as Commandant as well as being instrumental in forming the funeral honors. Richard is survived by his children, Patricia A. Wearne of Vernon, Colleen Jordan of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Phyllis and Joe DiUlio of Vernon, Lori and James Little of Magnolia, Delaware, Richard and Lynne Wearne Jr. of Raymond Maine, Michael and Stephanie Wearne of Ellington, Keith and Jennifer Wearne of Tolland, Sean Wearne of East Berlin, and Ryan Wearne of East Berlin. His 12 grandchildren, Christina Wearne, Jimmy and Amy Jordan, Jennifer and Jeffery Howe, Steven Dimmock, Sarah and Robbie Mullin, Jesse and Karolina Little, Michael Jr., Lindsey, Luke, and Katie Wearne, and Mary Wearne along with 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and of course his Marine brothers and friends. He is predeceased by his 8 brothers and sisters, and his son Brian Wearne. His family would like to thank his caregiver and friend Joy Sweeney for all her time, love, support, and respect that she showed to their father. She is truly an angel sent from above. A funeral will be held Wednesday (October 10, 2018) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 20 Cottage Street East Berlin. Internment with full military honors will be in The State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday (October 9, 2018) from 5-7pm.
