It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful yet unexpected passing of Robert B. Ames our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He died in his sleep at home on January 27th, at the age of 69.
Bob was a lifetime New Britain resident. He was born March 30, 1954 and was the son of the late Maurice and Ann (Poskus) Ames.
Bob graduated from New Britain High School Class of 1972. As an avid golfer Bob was President of his own New Britain Golf Association league for many years. He was always very passionate and loved the competition whether playing golf, croquet, ping pong, softball or cards. He was a lifelong painter who owned his own business for the past 25 years. He also enjoyed serving for many years on the City of New Britain Building Commission and most recently on the School Building Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Link) Ames, their two children, Lauren Ames of Kensington, and Benjamin Ames of New Britain, and his greatest love, granddaughter Ava Scofield, his “baby girl”. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Nelson and her husband Ronald of Southington; brother-in-law Richard Link of Rhode Island; sister-in-law Carol Adams of Maine; his nieces Jennifer, Alena, Nicole, Patty, Heidi; a nephew Eric; and many other family members and dear friends as well.
“Uncle Bob” to many, he was a devoted, supportive, and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He enjoyed being outdoors, and spending time with family vacationing in Maine where he climbed Mt. Katahdin multiple times with Benjamin. All who knew him, will miss his kind heart and story telling. He never let a few facts stand in the way of a good story.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to First Tee Connecticut: https://firsttee.org/donate.
