Robert Wesley Flavell

WALLINGFORD - Robert W. Flavell, 85, beloved husband of Jeannette (Smith) Flavell for 65 years, departed this life in the presence of his wife and children on Dec. 4 2015, after a brief illness at Masonicare in Wallingford. Born on Feb. 4, 1930 in Hartford, the son of the late Raymond and the late Hazel Flavell, he proudly served in the U.S. Air National Guard in the early 1950's. After completing his military service, Bob and Jeannette became long-time East Hartford residents to raise their family. Upon his primary retirement as a salesman for an electrical supply company, Bob and Jeannette were able to enjoy many years at their second home on Cape Cod, while wintering as snowbirds in Florida. Left to cherish Bob's memory, along with his wife Jeannette, are his daughter Linda Randall and her husband Robert of Englewood, FL, his son James W. Flavell and his wife Sandra of Cheshire, CT, and his daughter Susan Lawlor and her husband Daniel of Bolton, CT, his grandchildren James, Emily, Brian, Jennie, and Sean, eleven great-grandchildren, and many friends to whom he remained closely bonded since his youth. Bob will be remembered for his life of service, commitment, and dedication. A Freemason for many decades, Bob served the Masons as Past Master of the Orient Lodge #62 A.F.&A.M., District Deputy of Masonic District #6B, and proudly wore the red fez of the Shriners. An accomplished musician, he played trumpet in the Shriners Band for many years, and also performed in hundreds of concerts in many other bands, including the town bands for Harwich and Chatham, MA, and Branford, CT. Aside from his integrity, decency, and warm spirit, Bob will also be remembered for his sense of humor, always quick with a witty anecdote or zany one-liner. He will also be remembered for the legendary annual Labor Day clambakes he and his best friends and neighbors hosted each year, often with upwards of one hundred guests, and always ending with an impromptu sing-along. A memorial service will be held Tuesday (December 8, 2015) at one o'clock in the Masonicare Chapel, 22 Masonic Ave. Wallingford, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution consider giving to Masonicare Annual Appeal c/o The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
