Shirley D. Nelson

Shirley D. (Langdon) Nelson, 99, of Colchester, CT sadly departed our world on January 28, 2024.  Born on January 26, 1925, Shirley was one of 10 children to Harold Langdon and Agnes Messenger of New Britain, Connecticut. Shirley passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is predeceased by her husband Norman, her brothers Burton, Harry, and Artie, as well as her sisters Virginia, Ruthie, Agnes and Florence. She is survived by her sisters Cheryl and Joannie.

Norman and Shirley married in 1946 and lived in Colorado before making their home in Connecticut. They had three beautiful daughters together, Laura, Norma, and Pamela.

Though she lived a long wonderful life, those of us blessed to be touched by her existence know that even 99 years was still not enough. Shirley was the family matriarch, and took great pride in watching over all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her happiest times were those spent with family.

Among many things, Shirley enjoyed landscape painting, playing the piano, trips to the casino, going to the Saratoga Race Track, the beach, seafood dinners, and baking. Many of her passions were passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Shirley spent the last 35 years living in Colchester, with her daughter and caregiver Norma. She was always full of laughter, sass, and love for all those she met. She will be deeply missed by all of us.

Visitation will be held at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy, Berlin on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm at Berlin Congregational Church, 878 Worthington Ridge, Berlin, CT 06037. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, immediately following the church service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in care of Norma Negri.
