Sophie B. Prigodich

Sophie Barbara (Rozanowski) Prigodich, 95, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Monday (October 5, 2026). She was the beloved wife of nearly 50 years of the late Taras “Ted” Prigodich.

Sophie was born May 13, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, to Mary and Victor Rozanowski and grew up in New York City before meeting Ted, then in the Navy, and marrying on November 4, 1951. Sophie and Ted began their life together in New Britain before moving to Newington, where she resided for 62 years. Family meant everything to Sophie. Sunday dinners and summers at the lake house in Woodstock, CT created cherished memories for all who gathered there. Christmas Eve was always the highlight of the year, lovingly hosted by Sophie well into her eighties. An exceptional chef, Sophie passed the joy of cooking on to three generations. Sophie’s generosity and love of her grandchildren was always on display, especially at Christmas where she creatively found new ways to bring joy. She will be remembered fondly by all who had the chance to sit and speak with her.

In addition to her husband Ted, Sophie was predeceased by her siblings, Cecilia Bubelnik and Steven Rozanowski. She is survived by her sister, Helen Mis of Glendale, Arizona. Sophie leaves her loving children, son Richard Prigodich (Jenner); son Kenneth Prigodich; daughter Barbara Meskill (John); and daughter Phyllis Kindelan (Edmund). She also leaves her grandchildren, Andrew Prigodich (Kara); Katherine Prigodich; Russell Prigodich (Sara); Meghan Kindelan; Brian Meskill (Ashley); Erin Nemecek (Scott); Teddy Kindelan (Martha); Kathleen Slater (Matt); Alicia Prigodich; and Kenneth Prigodich Jr. Sophie was blessed with great-grandchildren, Carbon, Cadence, and Callan Prigodich; Logan Prigodich; Bennett and Robert Meskill; Lee and Jane Nemecek; Theodore, Sloane, and Hudson Kindelan; Sophie Slater; and Landon Prigodich. She will also be missed by her loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing.
