Thomas McKeon, son of Emma and Richard “Dick” McKeon of Kensington, passed away in Reno, Nevada on July 31, 2024 after a short illness. Survivors of Tom include his brothers, James McKeon of Kensington and Richard McKeon of Surprise Arizona; Richard’s wife and Tom’s sister in law, Jill McKeon of Surprise, Arizona; two nieces Katherine (McKeon) Karnell of Phoneix, Arizona and Megan (McKeon) Short of Reno, Nevada and a great niece, Lucy Elizabeth Karnell. His first cousins include John Aguzzi of Kensington and Joann Cucci of Niantic, Marybeth (McKeon) Anderson, Leona (McKeon) Rosso, Sharon (McKeon) Simcik of Southington, Danny McKeon of Kensington, Franny (McKeon) Tawes of Cummings, Geogia, Patrick Dennehy of Asheville, North Carolina, Jack McKeon of Kensington, Mark McKeon of Chester, Vermont, Marion McKeon of New Britain and Robert McKeon of Southington. Two of Tom’s first cousins predeceased him, Maureen Dennehy and Georgeann (McKeon) Leibe.
In his youth, Thomas served as an altar boy at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Kensington. In his youth, he was an outstanding baseball player. Thomas left Berlin High School prior to graduation and enlisted in the United States Navy from 1958-1961 and spent most of his time on the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Connecticut and worked in construction, working as an equipment operator for various contractors in Kensington and New Britain, including stints with his father’s and uncle’s construction company, McKeon Brothers of Kensington.
When Tom’s mother Emma became ill, Tom took good care of her. Soon after her death, Tom left Connecticut and spent the remainder of his life traveling and living in various cities throughout the Western United States including, San Diego, California, Santa Maria, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, Salt Lake City and Reno, Nevada, where he passed and is laid to rest. Reno is where he spent the most time and where his niece, Megan, went to college, and still resides. They would get together occasionally for coffee and they both enjoyed spending time together.
