Violet Lyth (Eckert, Boissoneau), 99, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 17, 2025 at Southington Care Center. She was born in New Britain to Albert and Anna (Neumann) Eckert on May 23, 1925 and grew up in Newington before moving to New Britain, Kensington, Berlin and finally Meriden where she resided at The Village at Kensington Place. She attended Newington High School, class of 1943 and worked at American Savings Bank, retiring as a branch manager from MidConn Bank (now Webster Savings) in May of 1991.
She was a lifetime member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in New Britain and attended Church of Christ Congregational in Newington with her husband, John.
Violet belonged to the Timberlin Ladies Niners, the AARP in Berlin and the VFW Auxillary. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, playing cards, golfing, cooking, flower arranging and other crafts. She was an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their athletic, artistic, and musical pursuits. She enjoyed travel and cruises and visited Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and New Mexico over the years. She also loved the beach and many summer vacations were taken at the Connecticut or Rhode Island shore.
Violet was well liked by her co-workers and caregivers and we often heard how pleasant she was and were told “We love your mom”. She was strong willed and sharp witted, closely followed current events and was not averse to expressing her opinion. She will be missed by family and friends.
Violet is predeceased by her husband John Lyth to whom she was married for 24 years and Aurel Boissoneau, father of her children, to whom she was married for 52 years. She also is predeceased by her brother Albert Eckert Jr. and her beloved dog, Checkers.
Violet is survived by her son Dean Boissoneau and wife Peggy of Kensington; son Neil Boissoneau and wife Deborah of Berlin and daughter Cheryl Boissoneau and husband Bruce Gobi of Portland, Maine. Her grandchildren Michelle Boissoneau-Mazzarella and husband Ernie Mazzarella of Berlin; Scott Boissoneau of Kensington; Emily Gobi and husband Joshua Mallory of Portland, Maine and Ellen Gobi of Alamogordo, New Mexico. In addition are great grandchildren Rianne, Rebecca and Rory Mayer of Berlin and Ezra Mallory of Portland.
Violet is also survived by step-children William F. Lyth and wife Debra and JoAnn L. Huffman and husband Michael as well as 8 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff at The Village at Kensington Place, Southington Care Center and Constellation Hospice of Connecticut for their kindness to and care for Violet.
Donations in memory of Violet, per her request, may be made to Humane World for Animals; online or by mail at 1255 23rd St, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037.
