Celia (Battaglia) Dorio, 96, of Kensington, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at The Hospital of Central CT surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Joseph Dorio to whom she was married for 68 years.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Dorio and his wife, Lynda Barry of Old Lyme; her son-in-law, Paul Ligas of Kensington; her grandson, Adam Ligas and his wife Jaime of East Berlin; her grandson Justin Ligas and his wife, Amanda of Kensington; her great-grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Max and Caleb, and several nephews and nieces including Richard, Joseph, Donald and John Balducci, Carol Simone, Roberta Kramer and Thomas Battaglia, Gary and Dennis Dorio, along with all their spouses and dear children.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her dearly loved daughter, Patricia Ligas, her brother Albert Battaglia and his wife Angeline (Marchesi) Battaglia, her sister Emily (Battaglia) Balducci and her husband Joseph Balducci.
Celia was born in New Britain on June 30, 1927, to the late Anthony and Angelina (Distola) Battaglia of New Britain. She was raised in New Britain and graduated from New Britain High School. In addition to raising a family, she worked at TOPS department store, was an Inspector of ball bearings at Fafnir’s, an Inspector of hinges at Stanley Works, and a secretary at Tuttle Bailey in New Britain.
Celia Dorio will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, and Grandma Ceil to the Barry family. She loved spending time with her family and traveling.
The family of Celia Dorio is grateful for the loving care of the staff at Middlewoods in Newington, especially Megan, Rosemary, and “Her Hero,” Shawn. For several years, Celia was loved and kindly cared for by Alicia of Nutmeg Home Assistance at Middlewoods. Her family is incredibly grateful.
Celia’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, Techs, and the Hospice team of The Hospital of Central CT. Their skilled care and compassion were greatly appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church in Kensington. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery, Worthington Ridge, Berlin. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin.
