Constance "Connie" Shoplick

Constance Shoplick passed away on May 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 23, 1933 to Henry and Mildred Johnson, Connie lived in Berlin, CT for most of her life. After graduating from Berlin High School in 1951, she proceeded on to UCONN and Middlesex Hospital School of Medical Technology to earn her degree. She worked in private laboratories before finding a position as a microbiologist at Bradley Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 25 years.

Connie was married to William F. Shoplick for 65 years and raised three children. She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Klotz and Jane Shoplick, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Carol Hall. She was predeceased by her husband William and her son Jeffrey.

Throughout her retirement years, Connie developed many close friendships with members of the Kensington Garden Club and the Timberlin Lady Niners Golf Club. She cherished the bonds with her garden club and golfing friends, and always felt fulfilled by giving to others. Although she was small in size, Connie had a huge heart, and would always be the first to pitch in to help. She believed that serving gave her a sense of purpose.

In addition to her interests in gardening and golfing, Connie enjoyed being outdoors, and spent many weekends throughout her life at the family’s cabin in VT. There she found joy in simple gatherings with friends and relatives. She also appreciated learning about different cultures in her travels throughout America and Scandinavia.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on July 24, 2021at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill Street, Berlin, CT. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Connie’s name to the Bethany Covenant Church Building Fund (785 Mill St, Berlin, CT 06037) or to the Kensington Garden Club (PO Box 367, Kensington, CT 06037).
