David Charles Martin passed away on October 13th, 2023 in Berlin, CT. He was born on January 12th, 1949 in Hartford, CT.
“Big Dave” had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He could start a fire in the wood stove like no one else and warm up the family home that he had built to the point that windows had to be opened on one cold and snowy Christmas. He loved being at the rural family cabin in upstate New York (which he also built), where cell phone service and people were hard to come by. Dave loved his family very much and delighted in watching his grandchildren grow. He strongly encouraged and supported all of his loved ones. He was always ready for a spirited debate about politics and loved his country. He enjoyed chemistry, history, and old Westerns. Dave was inherently intelligent and became an engineer. He held a wide range of positions in his life such as a car salesman, entrepreneur and a school janitor, working hard at whatever position he held to provide for his family and loved ones.
Dave is survived by his son, Michael Martin and his wife Katherine and their children Claire (who he affectionately called Peanut) and Christian. Also surviving are Dave’s in-laws Daniel and Janet Boyd of Unionville and their children Danny and Jenni, Henry and Joyce Dombrowski of Hebron and their children Henry and Paul, John and Nancy Banulski of Simsbury and their children Stephen, Laura, and Emma, and Chester and Sophia Jablonski of Farmington and their son Matthew. He was painfully predeceased by his son David John Martin in 2006 and his wife Judith Ann Martin in 2007.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy. Kensington.
