Elizabeth (Betty) Lynch, 92, passed away on August 1st, 2022 at Apple Rehab in Cromwell. A daughter of the late Stephen and Marguerite (Rose) Lynch, she was a lifelong resident of New Britain. Betty is survived by her loving sister Virginia Lynch Sasek and brother in law Donald Sasek, her beloved nieces Cheryl Sasek and Jerilyn S. Allen MD, her nephew Don Sasek Jr. as well as her grand nephew Brendan Allen and grand niece Mackenzie Allen. Her brother Rev. Stephen Lynch OFM, a Franciscan priest preceded her in death.
Betty was a graduate of CCSU (TCC) followed by a Master’s degree from UConn and a sixth year certificate also from UConn. She was a member of the honors societies of both CCSU and UConn.
Betty enthusiastically taught in New Britain at Chamberlain School during her first six years. She also enjoyed teaching at CCSU’s, Early Childhood Learning Center, and then teaching college and graduate students in early childhood at CCSU. Betty was an avid reader herself and successfully co-chaired the annual Children’s Book Festival at CCSU for many years.
Betty was a third generation, lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Church, St. Joachim Parish joyfully serving in the capacity of Parish Council member, Eucharist minister and lector. Betty received the St. Joseph medal of appreciation by Archbishop Henry Mansel. She was a representative of St. Joachim at the New Britain Council of Catholic Women.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on September 17, 2022 at 9:00 am at St. Mary Church Chapel (lower level), 544 Main St., New Britain. A private burial was held at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to St. Joachim Parish, 544 Main St, New Britain, CT 06051.
