Obituary

Irene B. Sanders, 77, of Berlin, CT passed away on June 4, 2022 after a battle with complications from COPD and a recent COVID-19 infection. Irene was born on September 6, 1944 to Joseph and Mary Burkarth in New Britain, CT. After Irene graduated from New Britain High School, she went on to study Business at Tunxis Community College. After graduating with an Associate’s Degree, she went on to own and operate a TCBY franchise. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Berlin.  Irene was an active volunteer with her local food pantry. She enjoyed cruises and traveling to other countries, and spent her free time gambling at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

She is survived by her brother, David Burkarth; two sons, George Sanders and Richard Sanders and his wife Kelley; and her grandpups Emma and Jade Sanders. She said that she was most proud of being a single mother and to have raised two boys on her own.  She had a great life and regretted nothing. Her final words were “Grandma was truly my best-friend”.
