Louis Miller Obituary

Louis H. Miller, (age 74), dedicated husband, father, friend and neighbor of Berlin, CT, passed away unexpectedly with his cherished family by his side on January 8th, 2023.

Lou was born in New Britain, CT, to the late Hermann and Margaret (Dornfreid) Miller. He is survived by his wife Beverly (Gagnon) Miller, daughter Aimee (Miller) Chappa, son Jason and wife Kathy (Tanguay) Miller, and his brother Jeffery Miller and sister-in-law Nancy Miller. Lou is the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Chloe, Edmund, Thomas, Noah, Peyton, and Maya.

Lou lived every day of his life as an act of service for his loved ones, his community, and even those who never had the honor of knowing him personally. A Berlin High School Class of 1966 graduate, he was drafted into the US Air Force in 1968 and was stationed in California with a top-secret clearance. Soon after, he married his soulmate, best friend, and life partner Bev in California before finally returning to Connecticut and calling Berlin their forever home.  While working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft (East Hartford, CT), Lou volunteered on the Board of Directors for Hartford Work Bank as well as the Portage Lake ME Association.

There was no such thing as “sitting still” for Lou. He worked hard and loved even harder, always extending a helpful hand and a big, dimpled smile without ever expecting anything in return. He enjoyed snowmobiling and spending summers in northern Maine with his big extended family who will forever love him dearly.

To Lou, being a father and a grandfather were the greatest roles of his lifetime. He treasured each minute he spent with his grandchildren and could always be seen, beaming proudly, in the audience of every sporting event, music/dance recital, and school ceremony. He prided himself in teaching his grandchildren to be self-sufficient; oil changes, running the lawn mower, driving the boat, and balancing a checkbook were common lessons. As practical as he was, Lou never forgot to appreciate the little things in life. He put equal importance on sharing these lessons, too, like the proper way to make a gin cooler, and always remembering to ‘taste’ the cookies before they cool.

During his “retirement”, Lou proudly volunteered with the Disabled American Veterans in Newington, CT.  He cherished these moments with his fellow veterans, listening to and learning from them. He held their stories with great respect.

Knowing Lou Miller was a gift and loving him was a given. May his memory fill the hearts of his loved ones with the boundless joy he brought to this world.

The family will honor Lou’s request and will not be holding services. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the early spring.
