Mattie May West

Mattie May (Yopp) West, of Bloomfield, beloved wife of John Henry West, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mattie was the daughter of the late David Yopp and Mary Lena (Perry) Yopp.  She was born and raised in Berlin, attended Berlin schools, and graduated from Berlin High School.  Mattie and later lived in New Britain before moving to Bloomfield in 1983.  She attended the Full Gospel New International Church in Manchester.

Surviving are her husband, John Henry West; her children, Alfred West, Anthony West and his wife Denise, Deborah Martinez, Maurice West, Maureen Simmons, Darian West and his wife Marie; two sisters, Bernice Wooten and Priscilla Pearson; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Mattie was predeceased by a son, Thomas West and six brothers and sisters, Thomas Yopp, Eldredge Yopp, Benjamin Yopp, Edna, Yopp, Willie Mae Cross, and Daisy Evans.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin/Porters, 111 Chamberlain Hwy, Kensington with Pastor Mark Ballew from New Bethel F. B. H. Church officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.  A calling hour will be on Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service.
