Pasquale Castrogiovanni, 88, of New Britain, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was the widower of Veronica (Czeskowiak) Castrogiovanni who died Dec. 24, 2022.
Born in Leonforte, Sicily, he was the son of the late Isidoro and Maria (La Porta) Castrogiovanni. Pasquale learned the art of shoemaking in Sicily when he was eight years old. He worked as a shoemaker in New Britain and later at various Ball bearing Companies before working at Abbott Ball Company in West Hartford for many years. He also worked in the restaurant business, owning and operating Sal’s Snack Bar in Newington. He retired from Kensington Market in 2017, after eighteen years of service. Pasquale will be remembered as a conscientious individual who was strict but fair. He was a great cook and loved to garden. Pasquale had a big heart and deeply cared for his family.
Surviving are three children, Maria D. Tkac (husband George Tkac Jr.), Hercules I. Castrogiovanni, and Maurice Castrogiovanni; two brothers, Antonio Castrogiovanni of Florida and Tano Castrogiovanni and family in Brazil; two sisters, Vera Castrogiovanni and family in Brazil, Maria de Motta Castrogiovanni and family in Brazil; a sister-in-law, Sirlei Castrogiovanni and family in Connecticut; a beloved grandson, Brandon G. Tkac in Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. In addition to his parents and wife, Pasquale was predeceased by two brothers, Giuseppe Castrogiovanni and Angelo Castrogiovanni.
Funeral services and calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy, Kensington.
