On September 1, 2021 Richard Michael Pampuro passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Richard met his life love, Evelyn (Fumiatti) Pampuro, at the age of fifteen. After asking her to go steady, she replied, “You are stuck with me now,” resulting in a loving relationship that included 60 wonderful years of marriage, four children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and many beautiful memories.
Richard served in the United States Army and, after being honorably discharged, married the love of his life. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant from the New Britain Fire Department. In addition, Richard was a skilled machinist, working at several shops in the area. He also owned Ricky’s Catering and PRELL Manufacturing.
Richard and Evelyn traveled the world in their spare time, first in a camper and RV with their children and later as a couple on multiple cruises. For decades they traveled to Aruba to escape the New England winter. He also enjoyed summer visits to Hampton Beach, NH.
Richard was an avid card player, gardener, and man who could fix almost anything. He was sober for over three decades and helped many navigate sobriety.
Greeting him up in heaven will be his mother, Mary Swintek Cook, sister Donna Pampuro Strout, brother Peter Pampuro, and many others who have touched his life yet passed on.
Back here, he leaves his wife of sixty years, Evelyn Fumiatti Pampuro. Their children Lynn Patarini and husband Steven of Centerbrook, Paul Pampuro and wife Catherine of San Diego CA, and Todd Pampuro of Kensington, grandchildren Richard and wife Aviva Pampuro, Amanda Pampuro and partner John Sarmiento, Enrico Patarini, Zachary Pampuro, Matthew Pampuro, and Jillian Pampuro, and great-grandchild, Rosa Sarmiento. In addition, Richard leaves more friends than he realizes.
Richard, along with his entire family, would like to thank all for their kind words and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The New Britain Boys and Girls Club in Richard’s honor.
Calling hours are Monday. September 6th from 5-7 at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin Connecticut. A mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Kensington, CT followed by a graveside service at Maple Cemetery, Worthington Ridge, Berlin, CT.
