William John DeStasio Sr.

William John DeStasio Sr., 94, of Kensington, husband of Julia (Trombone) DeStasio, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2019 at Valerie Manor in Torrington.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Costanzo) DeStasio. William was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving as a Seaman First Class.  He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.  William was a member of St. Paul’s Church and the American Legion.  He loved family gatherings and was an avid UCONN Women’s basketball fan.

Surviving are his wife, Julia (Trombone) DeStasio; a son, William J. DeStasio Jr. and fiancée Darlene Sage of Bristol; two daughters, Susan M. DeStasio of Harwinton, Julie A. DeStasio of Newington and fiancé David Quick of Torrington; three grandchildren, Rachel Keesler and her husband Donald Keesler Jr., Amanda Pac and her boyfriend Dejan Maric, Nicole Pac and fiancé Tom Pestritto; and one great-grandson, Jacob Keesler.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin/Porters, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Kensington.  A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm.   Entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum at St. Mary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 20, Terryville, CT.
